Pinsent Campsite on Teg Down is the home of Winchester Scouting. Since the 1930s it has benefited over 80,000 young people to camp under canvas, to cook their own food on open fires, to play all sorts of wide games and to enjoy many adventurous activities. It is also used every week by up to 650 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts for their evening meetings.

The supporting buildings are long overdue replacement. A new single building for the 21st Century will replace the existing buildings. It will provide 300 square metres of high quality space with modern facilities.

This will transform the appearance of the site. It will also make the site with its woods and fauna much more attractive for use during the day by our 21 Primary Schools for nature days or school days held in the woods.

Funding milestones

Raising £450k from £50 gifts & matched funding

We have completed the first £119k of funding and also the foundations and preliminary works. You can see these by clicking on the SITE WORKS SO FAR icon opposite.

We are appealing to 8,000 people who have camped at Pinsent in the last 80 years to each gift us £50. Over 1,200 of these are from Winchester Scout District today.

The next milestone is to match fund our first £100k with another £100k; and then to match fund this first £200k with a further £200k. We can then complete any balance with the combination of grants and soft loans.

We need to raise most of these matched funds in the coming months. We can then make our grant and soft loan applications. This will allow us to proceed quickly with the steel frame, roof and construction of the first bays. These will provide new washing and toilet facilities for the 2018 camping season.
