8th Winchester Scout Group

Area Served: Badger Farm, Stanmore, Oliver's Battery and Pitt Manor (the 2 electoral Wards of St Luke; and Oliver's Battery & Badger Farm)
Beavers: 2 Colonies
Cubs: 2 Packs
Scouts: 1 Troop (a 2nd Troop is planned for moving on from Cubs)
Web Site: www.8thwinchester.org.uk*

The Group is thriving and punches above its weight because of its high quality of Scouting. The Scout Troop is a consistent performer at the annual District Antler Patrol and the Hampshire County Emlyn Patrol Competitions. Five young people went to the World Scout Jamboree in the USA for 2019 - more than some counties!

A second Scout Troop is a priority for 2020/21 to help 'Meet the Demand'. This is needed for young people to progress through the Scout programme for 6-18 year olds. There are 1,166 of them in the St Luke Ward.

Stanmore Scouts own their hut with a 99 year lease with 40 years to run. However, to fulfill its potential to 'Meet the Demand' from many more young people, a more suitable site is needed for a modern and large Scout building for the next 80-100 years. Community use of the building would allow for many clubs and meeting groups for all ages. There are 3 options; a larger site in Somers Close; a site somewhere else in Stanmore; or a move outside Stanmore.

How to use these numbers: Focus on the Vacancies number. Then look to the Joining List number (those of joining age for that section registered ahead of you). It is better to APPLY to Scout Groups with high Vacancies and low Joining Lists. Use the Scout Group locator on the left to find the Groups closest to you by area. When you find the Group that best fits your needs, click the blue APPLY HERE icon to make your Registration of Interest (above left). Improve your chances of an offer by volunteering as a parent for an adult role. Some Groups may require this.

The closest Groups are the 5th & 7th (click on their neckers below).
