8th Winchester Scout Group

Area Served: Badger Farm, Stanmore, Oliver's Battery and Pitt Manor (the 2 electoral Wards of St Luke; and Oliver's Battery & Badger Farm)
Beavers: 2 Colonies
Cubs: 1 Pack (2nd Pack planned for 2018/19)
Scouts: 1 Troop
Web Site: None

The Group is popular, thriving and consistently punches above its weight because of its high quality of Scouting - in Beavers (6-8 yrs), Cubs (8-10.5 yrs) and Scouts (10.5-14 yrs). The Scout Troop is a consistent performer winning competitions like the annual District Antler Patrol and the Hampshire County Emlyn Patrol Competitions. Five young people have been selected to go to the World Scout Jamboree in the USA for 2019 - more than some counties!

Stanmore Scouts own their refurbished and Lottery funded Scout hut with a 99 year lease that has 45 years to run. However, to fulfill its potential to 'Meet the Demand' for up to 360 girls and boys from the local community, the Scouts need a more suitable site on which to build a modern 600 square metre Scout building to provide for the next 80-100 years. There are 3 options; a larger site in Somers Close; a suitable site somewhere else in Stanmore; or a move outside Stanmore.

A second Cub Pack is a priority for 2018/19 to help 'Meet the Demand' from local young people and their parents. In turn, this will seed an extra Scout Troop and the need for an Explorer unit. This is needed for young people to progress through the Scout programme for 6-18 year olds. There are 1,166 of them in the St Luke Ward. A new Scout building would provide for further growth to 360+ Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. Community use of the building would allow for many clubs and meeting groups for all ages.
